Cannes: John Cusack to Star in Chase Thriller 'Misfortune' (Exclusive)

— The Maps to the Stars actor, describing? Los Angeles, adding that it’s “a place where a guy can say he’s a ‘life-coach-channeler-masseur’ ” and nobody would question it.

Lucky McKee will direct the film, which Radiant is selling in Cannes.

John Cusack is in negotiations to play a man desperately in need of money in chase thriller Misfortune.

Cusack will star as Miller, a businessman who, after embezzling a client’s money, leaves everything behind, including his family, to start a new life. Everything goes according to plan until he is separated from his cash in the middle of the wilderness, where three young friends stumble upon it. Miller, desperate and violent, will do anything to get it back.

Lucky McKee (All Cheerleaders Die) will direct the taut thriller based on a screenplay by Jared Butler and Lars Norberg. Lee Nelson and David Buelow of Envision Media Arts will produce.

The film is the latest addition to Radiant’s busy Cannes slate, and the company is selling international rights on the ground at the festival.

Cusack's recent films include his highly praised performance as Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy, along with appearing in Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq. He’ll also star opposite Samuel L. Jackson in thriller Cell. Cusack is repped by ICM Partners and Ziffren Brittenham.
