Cannes: Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn Thriller 'Dragged Across Concrete' Lands at Lionsgate
'Bone Tomahawk' helmer S. Craig Zahler will direct the crime thriller from his own script.
Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the crime thriller Dragged Across Concrete, starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn, and will release it under its Summit Entertainment label.
S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) wrote and will direct the film, which is set to start production July 17 in Vancouver.
Gibson and Vaughn will play two police detectives who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics is leaked to the media. With little money and no options, the embittered policemen descend into the criminal underworld and find more than they wanted waiting in the shadows.
Keith Kjarval of Unified Pictures is producing with Dallas Sonnier of Cinestate, Jack Heller of Assemble Media and Sefton Fincham of Look to the Sky Films. The Fyzz Facility's Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones will serve as executive producers, along with Fantasy 6 and Victory Square Labs' Shafin Diamond.
"We are delighted to be working again with Mel Gibson, who helmed our double Oscar winner Hacksaw Ridge, along with Vince Vaughn and the great production team behind this film," Lionsgate president of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine said in a statement. "It's a double treat to have screenwriter S. Craig Zahler also direct what will be an intense film for audiences."
The deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Constantine; Eda Kowan, executive vp acquisitions and co-productions; and Elizabeth Hopkins, Motion Picture Group senior vp business and legal affairs, with WME Global and CAA Film Finance and Sales Group.
Bloom is handling international sales of the project in Cannes.
