VMAs: Cardi B Expresses Support for Colin Kaepernick
The free-agent NFL quarterback remains unsigned after he protested during the national anthem last season.
Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick got a shout-out from rapper Cardi B during the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night.
"As long as you kneeling with us, we're going to be standing for you, baby," she said.
Kaepernick, who played for the San Francisco 49ers through last season and once took the team to the Super Bowl, remains unsigned by an NFL team after kneeling during the national anthem last season to protest police brutality against blacks.
His position received a great deal of attention and criticism. The quarterback opted out of his 49ers contract in March and has yet to be signed by another team. And as the NFL season has gotten closer, more and more public figures have criticized teams, and the league as a whole, for what they see as Kaepernick being blackballed for his views. Others, meanwhile, maintain that Kaepernick is out of a job because of his in-game performance. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said the league isn't blackballing Kaepernick.
Other players, though, have continued Kaepernick's movement, kneeling or raising their fists on the sidelines.
