Carla Bruni to Lead French Band Aid Single

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

The former first lady will be joined by Vanessa Paradis and Lou Doillon for the charity Christmas song

Following the success of Bob Geldof’s latest Band Aid effort to fight Ebola, France will soon have its own charity Christmas tune.

Former first lady and current Bulgari model Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will lead the effort, to be called Christmas Is Here (Noel est la). She will be joined by French music and film stars, including Vanessa Paradis, Lou Doillon, Cesar winner Izia Higelin and popular rapper-turned-actor Joey Starr.

Singer and composer Jean-Louis Albert, who scored 2008’s I’ve Loved You So Long starring Kristin Scott Thomas, and French Idol (Nouvelle Star) winner Christophe Willem will also participate, according to a provisional list provided Friday by Mercury Music Group, which is part of French media conglomerate Vivendi’s Universal Music Group.

The French version will release a single and video Dec. 1, and all proceeds will go to Geldof’s Band Aid Association.

The British single with One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Bono, was released Nov. 17 and became the fastest-selling single of the year, with 206,000 copies in pre- and first-day sales in the U.K.

Geldof has said the charity’s effort has raised $1.6 million (€1.3 million) so far in single sales and text donations for the charity that aims to stop the spread of Ebola in Africa.
