PARIS -- Zodiak Media's international distribution arm, Zodiak Rights, has hired Caroline Torrance as head of international scripted. Torrance will work with both in-house and external productions to develop original drama and comedy series. She will also lead the Paris-based scripted sales team.

Torrance was previously BBC Worldwide's director of scripted, content and production, where she oversaw its global production and acquisition strategy.

"We are extremely happy that Caroline is joining us with her vast experience and knowledge. I know she will be a huge asset to the group and our international co-pro efforts around the globe, which will play a critical part in our growth strategy," said Zodiak Media CEO Marc-Antoine d'Halluin in a statement announcing the hire.

Added Torrance: "I am thrilled to be joining Zodiak, and I look forward to working with the talented sales teams in Paris and London and the fantastic independent production houses around the world."

Zodiak has a huge international hit with The Returned, currently airing in France and the U.K. and being remade for the U.S. by A&E Networks.

Zodiak's production companies have produced such scripted hits as the Scandinavian and U.K. versions of Wallander with Sweden's Yellow Bird, U.K. comedy hit The Inbetweeners with London-based Bwark Productions and BBC's supernatural dramedy Being Human through Touchpaer. Versailles is currently in development with Paris-based Marathon for CanalPlus, written by Spooks creator David Wolstencroft and Criminal Minds executive producer Simon Mirren.

Torrance will be based in London.
