CASBAA eyes pay TV for confab

HONG KONG -- "Subscribe to the Future -- All Eyes Are on Asia" will be the theme of the 15th annual Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia convention, to be held in Hong Kong on Oct. 28-30, organizers said Wednesday.

"This year's convention is set to unlock the value of pay TV to enhance market growth," CASBAA CEO Simon Twiston Davies said, adding that pay TV's competitiveness over terrestrial TV will be a central focus of the three-day event.

Digital cable, high-speed broadband and mobile TV services will also be highlighted, looking at how the current state of direct-to-home, linear TV and Web TV broadcasts influence them.

Japan, Korea and Australia will be in the spotlight as high-energy markets, with the development of markets in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and India another focus. The state of pay TV in China after the Beijing Olympics also will be discussed.
