Eric Matthew Brown penned the municipal fraud drama and Bert and Bertie will direct.

Dirty Films — the production banner from Cate Blanchett, Andrew Upton and Coco Francini— and New Republic Pictures are partnering on the municipal fraud drama Queen Bitch & The High Horse.

Bert and Bertie, known for helming Amazon’s coming-of-age comedy Troop Zero, will direct the film screenplay from Eric Matthew Brown.

Inspired by the largest municipal fraud in American history, Queen Bitch & The High Horse portrays a town sweetheart turned corrupt public servant who embezzles millions to fund a show horse empire. The producer credits are shared by Blanchett, Francini and Upton of Dirty Films and Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer of New Republic.

Queen Bitch & The High Horse is the first film acquired under Dirty Films’ first look deal with New Republic, which is run by producers Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer and was behind the Elton John biopic Rocketman and Sam Mendes' World War I drama 1917.

Dirty Films' most recent credits are the FX on Hulu series Mrs. America and Australian limited series Stateless picked up by Netflix.

"We are thrilled to bring this fantastic script to life with our partners at New Republic Pictures and the formidable directing team of Bert & Bertie, who will bring their signature playful and bold vision to this timely, resonant film about what happens when citizens deify their leaders, and the leaders forget who they serve,” said Blanchett, Francini and Upton in a statement.

Bert and Bertie are set to direct half of the episodes for the upcoming Marvel/Disney+ series Hawkeye, with Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld starring. Brown is currently adapting his sci-fi thriller short story How Easy as a feature for Ed Berger to direct and Ben Shields Catlin to produce.

Verve negotiated the deal on behalf of Bert and Bertie and Brown.

Dirty Films is repped by CAA. Bert and Bertie are repped by Verve and the Nord Group.

Brown is repped by Verve and Lighthouse Entertainment.
