CBS affiliates target social Web sites


CBS said Monday that it will allow blogs and social media sites to embed local news headlines and images from CBS-owned local stations.

These "widgets" will come with a banner ad and links to video and text stories on the CBS station's site and will be updated 24 hours a day.

The owners of the blogs and social media sites will receive a portion of advertising revenue generated from the embeds. The local CBS stations will sell the ads on the widgets.

The initiative, dubbed the CBS Local Ad Network, already has launched through several local news Web sites, including San Francisco's, Boston's and Chicago's The rollout will continue during the next several weeks on more sites, including New York's, Los Angeles' and and Philadelphia's

Local media sites using the widgets include and in Boston, and in Chicago and in San Francisco.

The system will be managed by Seevast's SyndiGo, an advertising network provider.
