CBS breaks sitcom 'Rules'


CBS' Super Bowl halo shone over the network Monday and the premiere of its heavily promoted new sitcom "Rules of Engagement."

"Rules" opened to 14.8 million viewers and a 5.2 rating/12 share in the adults 18-49 demographic at 9:30 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research. "Rules" got a boost from its 9 p.m. lead-in, "Two and a Half Men" (17.7 million, 5.8/13), which hit season-high ratings. The two comedies plus 10 p.m.'s "CSI: Miami" (18.4 million, 5.8/15) added up to a nightly win in both measures for the eye network (14.9 million, 5.0/12) despite strong performances by NBC's "Deal or No Deal" (17.4 million, 5.0/12) and "Heroes" (14.6 million, 6.4/14).
