CBS dramas, Fox football top Sun.

Football carried the night for Fox and dramas came through for CBS on a Sunday otherwise dominated by repeats in primetime.

ABC was wall-to-wall encores, highlighted by 8 p.m.'s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which averaged 12.7 million viewers and 4.2 rating/10 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research.

With 9 p.m.'s "Desperate Housewives" (12 million, 4.3/10) in repeat, a fresh installment of CBS' "Cold Case" (14.2 million, 3.9/9) had less competition and topped NBC's football coverage in the hour in viewers. At 10 p.m., the same was true for CBS' "Without a Trace" (14.1 million, 3.9/10).

Fox opened the night with a big bounce from a football overrun followed by its Bowl Championship Series Selection special. Reliable national estimates for Fox's live game coverage won't be available until Tuesday but it was enough to put Fox over the top in a big way for the night in adults 18-49.

CBS paced the race in total viewers with help from 7 p.m.'s "60 Minutes" (12.5 million, 2.5/7) and 8 p.m.'s "The Amazing Race" (10.7 million, 3.5/8).
