CBS did not take its time finding a new head of alternative programming. The network announced Thursday that it has promoted longtime staffer Sharon Vuong to run the reality operation.

Vuong, who joined CBS in 2011 as department director, will now serve as CBS Entertainment senior vp, reporting directly to Glenn Geller. She replaces the exiting Chris Castallo, who recently announced that he will leave the network when his current contract expires this summer.

The CBS reality portfolio, driven by veteran powerhouses Survivor and Big Brother, will take another big swing this summer with the arrival of Candy Crush. Developed in part by Vuong, the live-action game show is one of the first TV translations of a phone app. Also on deck is Ambulance, a docuseries that focuses on first responders.

Before she came to CBS, Vuong spent 10 years producing unscripted programming, with stints on Survivor, Big Brother, The Bachelor, Hell's Kitchen and Dancing With the Stars.
