CBS unit taps pair to co-run biz, legal

Bruce Pottash and Jon Birkhahn have been named co-heads of legal and business affairs at CBS Television Distribution.

Birkhahn has been promoted and Pottash has been tapped to share the executive vp legal and business affairs title at the distribution unit. They will jointly oversee all legal and business affairs for CTD.

Pottash, based in Los Angeles, will assume primary responsibility for legal matters pertaining to the production of programming produced by the group, West Coast syndication licensing, cable licensing and library programming. Birkhahn, based in New York, will focus on production and development agreements with talent and senior program personnel, distribution agreements with key program suppliers, East Coast syndication licensing and corporate matters.

Before the September 2006 merger of King World Prods. and CBS Paramount Domestic Television into CBS Television Distribution, Pottash was executive vp business affairs and legal at CBS Paramount Domestic Television, while Birkhahn was senior vp business affairs at King World.

"Bruce and Jon are both seasoned syndication veterans," CTD president and chief operating officer Bob Madden said. "Their advice and counsel has been invaluable over the years to King World and CBS Paramount Domestic Television. Under their leadership, we know the department is in good hands."

Pottash first joined what was then Paramount Television as senior vp legal and business affairs for domestic television in 1992, later rising through the ranks.

Birkhahn first joined King World in 1988 before leaving in 2000 to become general counsel for Wire One Technologies. He returned in 2003 as senior vp business affairs.
