Stone Fox Bride creative director Molly Guy chats with Pret-a-Reporter to break down how each ring reflects Hollywood's starlets: Allison Williams (classic), Mila Kunis (expensive) and Mary-Kate Olsen (tasteful).

An engagement ring says a lot about the wearer, and when it comes to celebrity engagements, it's worth a thousand words (and more than a thousand dollars).

Given the recent engagement news from fashion designer Mary-Kate Olsen and Girls actress Allison Williams, we decided to call up Molly Guy, creative director of insanely cool New York-based bridal showroom Stone Fox Bride, for her expertise on these famous hand hardwares. (Girls star Jemima Kirke has modeled for Stone Fox Bride's spring 2013 look book, shot by cass bird.) We discuss the engagement rings from Scarlett Johansson's vintage Art Deco band ("Shit, it's massive," says Guy) to Ashlee Simpson's vintage-inspired, Neil Lane-designed number ("It has a lot of character").

Mary-Kate Olsen

Engaged to French banker Olivier Sarkozy, the 27-year-old designer wears a  vintage  gold, four-carat diamond and sapphire ring by Cartier that was reportedly bought at a Sotheby's auction for  $81,250. Upon hearing the amount, Guy responded: "That's it? I thought she would get a half-million dollar ring." Regardless, Guy is a fan of Olsen's ring, describing it as being "really tasteful" and "a less conventional choice, which doesn't surprise me." It's a "beautiful, bold choice," says Guy, adding "you have to have real style to want that ring," which goes hand-in-hand with the designer's sartorial taste for atypical clothing and accessories. (Homeless chic, anyone?)

While appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the Girls actress shared how much she enjoyed looking at her ring from fiance and CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen. "I am obsessed with it," Williams told host Seth Meyers. "I stare at it a lot." We don't blame her, it is a classy one, which Guy says matches her "upscale style." Guy adds that the conventional solitaire cut is very much "an Upper East Side ring that grandmother would approve of."

Mila Kunis

Ah, at long last, Jackie and Kelso, uh, we mean Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, have decided to tie the knot. Similar to Williams' digit duster, Kunis' ring -- with its big diamond and platinum metal band -- matches her safe style. "It's not for someone who takes a lot of liberty with their style," says Guy, explaining, "It's a ring that says 'I'm marrying someone with a lot of money and I want the whole world to know it and I never want to be like standing by myself at the bar and have someone hit on me.' "

Scarlett Johansson

Last September, it was reported that the Her actress was engaged to journalist Romain Dauriac. His choice of ring for her? A vintage Art Deco style number, which Guy thinks is "really cool." She adds, "I love it and it's over the top in a good way." With Johansson's A-list status, Guys says the star isn't going to be one to settle for just any ring. It's fitting, since the ring exudes class and luxury, with its "legit vintage estate quality."

Emma Roberts

At age 23, Roberts will walking down the aisle soon with American Horror Story co-star Evan Peters. When she stepped out for the Golden Globes in January, the actress debuted a round-cut, pink gold and diamond ring on her left hand. "It's very Kardashian, I'm not into it," says Guy. "But I think it's pretty. If a girl had that ring and walked into my showroom, I would think she's someone who wants to make a statement but doesn't quite know how to do it."

Ashlee Simpson

The singer flashed her five-carat ring -- set in platinum and gold over 140 white diamonds and ruby accents -- when she tweeted: "My baby love and I are ENGAGED!!! Hallelujah Hawaii !!!!!" That baby, is fiance and Diana Ross' son Evan Ross, who gave Simpson a vintage-inspired ring, designed by Neil Lane. Guy describes the ring as having "a lot of character," noting that it reminds her of Liberace or Liza Minnelli. When making a comparison to Olsen's ring, she says, "You know the expression, 'Someone is wearing the clothes or the clothes are wearing someone.' " In this case, Ashlee's ring wears her.
