Celestial CEO Pfeiffer to leave

HONG KONG -- Celestial Pictures CEO William Pfeiffer will step down Sunday, the company said Thursday.

A television veteran with more than 20 years' experience in the Asian market, Pfeiffer is leaving Celestial to pursue a new business venture, a source familiar with the situation told The Hollywood Reporter.

Celestial Pictures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysian satellite TV broadcaster Astro All Asia Networks, has posted double-digit growth during Pfeiffer's tenure.

It acquired rights to the 760-title Shaw Brothers Film Library in March 2000. Those rights include theatrical releases, multimedia distribution, merchandising and ancillary rights, remakes and sequels. The company now distributes Shaw films from the 1950s to the '90s to more than 100 countries.

Pfeiffer was managing director Asia at Columbia TriStar International Television before joining Celestial in 2001.
