Celestial Pictures, Media Asia sign 5-year deal

Exclusive agreement will broadcast studio's films in SE Asia

HONG KONG – Regional pay-TV operator and studio Celestial Pictures and Hong Kong studio Media Asia had signed an exclusive agreement for the broadcast the latter’s releases in the next five years on pay-TV Chinese movie channel Celestial Movies.

All new Media Asia theatrical productions released from 2010 to 2014 will be broadcast via Celestial Movies via cable, satellite, on-demand, Internet and mobile to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia under the agreement.  

Upcoming releases from the filmmaking powerhouse include the 120 million yuan (US$17.6 million) martial arts epic “The Legend of Chen Zhen” directed by Andrew Lau (“Infernal Affairs”) and starring Donnie Yen (“Ip Man”) and Shu Qi (“If Your Are the One”), crime actioner “Fire of Conscience," directed by Dante Lam (“The Beast Stalker”), starring Leon Lai (“Forever Enthralled”) and Richie Jen (“Accident”), and the US$12 million John Woo-produced kung fu thriller “Reign of Assassins," headlined by Michelle Yeoh.

The two companies had previously signed a deal in 2004.
