The noted and quite creative fashion designer brought Saldana as his date to what is called the Oscars of fashion.

The CFDA Awards -- the Council of the Fashion Designers of America -- happens annually in early June at New York's Lincoln Center, bringing together editors, designers, celebrities and all manner of fashion flock to what those in the biz call "the Oscars of the fashion business." It goes all the way back to 1981.

But if you don't get a trophy, another way of winning the respect of this crowd is by dressing numerous celebrities -- if you're a designer -- and dressing them well. Disasters never help anybody.

One of our absolute red carpet favorites, Prabal Gurung -- who is worn often by Sarah Jessica Parker and Emma Stone -- brought as his date to the CFDA's actress Zoe Saldana. Now, we have to admit Zoe would look good in a paper bag, or even a plastic bag, but her black illusion-sectioned Prabal gown was an absolute standout. It's sexy, but a little tiny bit safe, as nothing drastic is revealed and she has a fabulous figure. Figures Zoe would be the evening's celebrity stand out: her stylist is Petra Flannery, who also dresses Stone, amongst others. Petra, who was featured on THR's 25 most powerful stylists list this year, simply has amazing taste, and it doesn't hurt that she also has great clients. She's put Zoe in some fabulous gowns before, as well. They all seem to be very memorable.

Jessica Chastain also wore a Prabal Gurung dress, but it couldn't have been more of a 360 from Zoe's. Chastain wore a knee length silk cream colored fit n' flare "frock," which is very girly and charming with a full skirt to the knee. It's playful and feminine, whereas Zoe's is full-on siren.

For those who want to catch this fashion spectable, it will actually be broadcast online June 5 on, allowing a global audience unprecedented access to the ceremony for the first time in history.
