CFTPA taps vet broadcaster Norm Bolen

Replaces Guy Mayson as president and CEO

TORONTO -- Veteran Canadian broadcaster Norm Bolen on Thursday was named top lobbyist for Canadian indie film and TV producers, replacing Guy Mayson as president and CEO of the Canadian Film and Television Production Assn.

Bolen most recently served as executive vp content at Alliance Atlantis Communications, responsible for 13 cable channels acquired in 2007 by CanWest Global Communications Corp. and finance partner Goldman Sachs & Co.

Before that, Bolen worked for 21 years at the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., rising to head of network television current affairs.

He goes to bat for indie producers as they continue to transition from traditional TV to digital product and pursue crunch talks with domestic broadcasters on a first-time terms-of-trade agreement to value program rights, including new media product.
