Chaplin film raises money in Bali

Rare footage screens for Balinale festival

SINGAPORE -- Rare footage of Charlie Chaplin's 1932 visit to Bali was shown Saturday to raise funds for the 2008 Balinale International Film Festival, set for Oct. 21-31.

The Bali Taksu Indonesia Foundation, which organized the dinner event in Bali, said that the money will fund a workshop for Indonesian filmmakers. The amount raised was not revealed.

The festival, which plans a Chaplin night this year, has put out a call for entries, seeking international feature films and documentaries, Indonesian docus and shorts from both Indonesia and abroad.
