Charles Dance joins 'Neverland' cast

EXCLUSIVE: Joins Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel and Bob Hoskins

NEW YORK -- Charles Dance ("Alien3," "Gosford Park") has joined the cast of Syfy and Sky Movies HD's "Neverland," a four-hour project slated to air in 2011.

The prequel to author J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" is written and directed by Nick Willing. The project is produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films on behalf of MNG Films in association with Syfy and Sky Movies HD and will be distributed by RHI Entertainment.

Dance will play the role of Dr. Richard Fludd, a 400-year-old former alchemist to Queen Elizabeth and the genius who can transport everyone back to their own time.

He joins previously announced cast members Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Raoul Trujillo and Charlie Rowe.

According to a plot description, Peter Pan (Rowe), along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a magical orb which transports them to another world -- Neverland.

Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr. Fludd (Dance), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time.

"We are thrilled to have Charles Dance round out our stellar cast for "Neverland"," said RHI's Robert Halmi, Sr. from the production's set in Ireland. "He will add just the right measure of both nuance and intensity to this complex character."
