Charlize Theron to Star in Universal's Spy Thriller 'Need to Know'
The actress also will produce the adaptation of the upcoming Karen Cleveland novel.
Charlize Theron will star in and produce Universal’s adaptation of the CIA thriller novel Need to Know, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Beth Kono, AJ Dix and Theron will produce through their Denver & Delilah Films banner. Universal’s senior vp production Kristin Lowe will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
The upcoming novel by Karen Cleveland centers on a young wife and mother who works as a CIA analyst. While digitally searching files in hopes of unmasking a Russian sleeper cell in the U.S., she makes a shocking discovery that threatens her job, her family and her life.
Cleveland has worked as an analyst for the CIA for the last several years.
Theron's upcoming films include Universal's eighth franchise installment The Fate of the Furious, Focus' Cold War thriller The Coldest City, Jason Reitman's comedy Tully and a Nash Edgerton action dramedy. She is repped by WME and Hanson, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman L.L.P.
Cleveland is repped by David Gernert at The Gernert Company. The film deal was made by WME on behalf of Gernert.
