Her stylist Enzo Angileri breaks it down.

If there’s ever a time for a reference to Old Hollywood allure, it’s at Cannes. And Charlize Theron’s hairstylist Enzo Angileri did just that when deciding on the soft wave he gave the star for the premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road, which she attended in a sunny yellow custom Dior gown.

“Keeping in mind the nature of the festival with its glamour and history, we did a very modern look but infused a sense of French Riviera glamour,” says Angileri, who's also worked with Rosario Dawson and Katie Holmes. But while the event was indeed about glitz, his focus was making “the hair feel healthy, rich and luxurious to the touch.”

The hairstylist tells Pret-a-Reporter that the preparation stage was a critical part of the final look. “I prepped the hair with Infusium23 Moisture Replenisher Leave-in Treatment ($7) to protect and add more nourishment — it has avocado and olive oil extracts, it’s the best!” Next he blew out Theron’s blonde locks with a flat Denman brush.

“When the hair was 100 percent dry, I used a round brush to perfect the finish. I made the part obviously more dramatic than normal to give a glamorous result, leaving out just the front part to execute that perfect movie-star wave.” The rest of Theron’s hair Angileri secured into a low chignon bun that would almost disappear into the hair before using a medium curling iron on the front piece to create a soft wave — the focal point.

To finish, he “applied a very, very small amount of L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($15) and then the final step is the all-over finishing spray which was a very small amount of Wella LuxeOil Light Oil shine spray ($28).” Voila — movie star to the max.
