Talk about taking matters into her own hands.

Best actress nominee Charlotte Rampling’s fashion influence is just as impressive as her film accomplishments, and tonight her innate Parisian chic (she’s up there with Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy when it comes to the canon of major style influencers over the last few decades) showed through more in what wasn’t there.

Case in point: Rampling apparently cut a few inches off her own hair leading up to Oscar night.

“I noticed it was a few inches shorter than a couple weeks ago,” says Rampling’s hair stylist Stephanie Hobgood. “I remarked about how great it looked and she said she had cut it herself.”

Her Oscar night look was just as low-key. Hobgood simply dried the actress’ damp hair using a blow dryer on a high heat, low pressure setting to keep the naturally wavy texture and then ran Leonor Greyl Eclat Styling Cream ($46) through the hair.

When Rampling thought the top of her hair was too smooth, Hobgood spritzed Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray ($24) to it in order to keep the look more natural — more Charlotte.

“She is really comfortable in her own skin and is so confident,” says Hobgood. “With her it’s about having a solid haircut and being herself even for the Oscars. Who does that? She is such a natural, classic beauty who is growing old gracefully.”

A beauty (and life) lesson Hollywood and everyone else should pay attention to.
