Charter expects Q1 revenue of $1.74 bil

New digital video and high-speed Internet customers added

NEW YORK -- Cable operator Charter Communications said Tuesday it expects to report first-quarter revenue of approximately $1.74 billion, an increase of 4.5%.

In posting its preliminary quarterly results, Charter said it once again saw decline of about 23,400 basic cable subscribers, but it added 95,800 digital customers, up from 25,600 in the year-ago period. Its high-speed Internet user growth momentum also accelerated.

"We are pleased with our solid first quarter performance as we added new digital video and high-speed Internet customers at an accelerated pace compared with last year's first and fourth quarters," said new CEO Mike Lovett.
