Aphrodite and Athena served as inspirations for the pieces the 'Blonde Salad' blogger designed for Intimissimi on Ice.

Chiara Ferragni, the doe-eyed Italian tour de force who went from being The Blonde Salad's sole blogger to a clothing designer slash business woman with more than 9 million Instagram followers, is now turning her attention to costume design.

The 30-year-old has teamed up with Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi to design the costumes for the label's annual ice skating show. This year's Intimissimi on Ice is titled "A Legend of Beauty," and is inspired by women like Helen of Troy and Venus and how their strength translates to modern beauty.

The show, which will showcase singers like Andrea Bocelli as well as professional skaters, will take place Oct. 6 and 7 at the Arena in Verona — the same venue where Ferragni's fiance, the Italian rapper Fedez, popped the question onstage earlier this year.

Pret-a-Reporter caught up with Ferragni, who shared her sketches and opened up about the costume design experience and her powerful female inspirations.

What is your inspiration for these costumes? The sketch names have a lot of references to powerful female characters — was there a powerful female theme?
For the costumes, I was inspired by legendary Greek women like Aphrodite, Daphne and Athena who stood out for their personality and values. I look for inspiration everywhere: from Instagram, to art, books and the street. I think of the kind of woman that I am representing: confident, feminine and energetic. For each character, I wrote down some more specific features, and I looked for costumes that would match their values and personalities.

How does the process of designing costumes differ from designing looks for your namesake line?
I never designed costumes for a show before, and I don't have any experience as a costume designer, but that's one of the reasons why I was so excited to take part to this collaboration.

Moreover, I think it's an opportunity for me to test my knowledge of fashion and what I learned so far in the fashion design field. I am sure that the result will be amazing, and I am looking forward to seeing how the ideas have become concrete!

What was the most fun part of the design process?
I loved the creative process behind each costume! I love to search for images and inspiration, it's like discovering new stories and details every day. The best part was to find the perfect outfit for each character, by choosing the texture, length and color.  It's an amazing experience that I would try again!

Were there any limitations or struggles you encountered because you had to factor in that the costumes would be worn by athletes on ice?
At first it seemed almost impossible to combine sensuality with functionality, but by doing a deeper search we found textures and cuts that can make an outfit look sensual while being comfortable for an ice skater. See-through fabrics are great to cover arms and legs while showing some skin and remaining mysterious.

Did Intimissimi give you complete creative control on the line?
Intimissimi wanted me to create something with my taste for the show. They didn't ask me to interpret something already designed, they actually wanted my creativity, point of views and ideas. It was something very stimulating to work on.

Favorite look? Which one would you wear if you had to hit the ice?
One of my favorite costumes is Daphne's. I love her story and the character and the dress faithfully tells the story and her personality. Her costume is charming and feminine like her, but at the same time the details show what is going to happen when she meets Apollo. You'll have to watch it to see how the story goes on!
