'Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience' Doc Acquired by FilmRise
Michelle Sinclair's directorial debut, which pays homage to her late father, who tragically died in 1978 at the height of his band’s success, will be released in 2017.
FilmRise has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the documentary Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience and will release the film in all media in 2017.
Michelle Sinclair's directorial debut is the never-before-seen story of Terry Kath, the legendary guitarist, lead singer and founding member of the rock group Chicago. The film is Sinclair’s homage to her late father, who tragically died in 1978 at the height of the band’s success. The doc chronicles Kath’s life and work through a mixture of present-day interviews and archival material, creating an intimate portrait of the man behind Chicago’s iconic solos and animated sounds.
Featuring family relics covering everything from Kath’s pre-Chicago youth to his years of touring with the group, Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and most recently screened at DOC NYC.
Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience was directed and produced by Michelle Kath Sinclair. Tony Papa and Jordan Levy also produced.
The deal was negotiated between FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher and vp acquisitions Max Einhorn with Submarine and Preferred Content.
