China embraces 'Kung Fu Panda'

DreamWorks toon grosses $14 mil in 10 days

SHANGHAI -- DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda" took in 97 million yuan ($14 million) during its first 10 days in China, the state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday.

"Panda" already is the most successful foreign animated film in China, and is expected to take in 150 million yuan ($21.9 million), the report said.

The film premiered June 19 in most of China, though distribution in the Sichuan province was delayed for two days, out of respect to the victims of the May 12 earthquake.

Distributors Huaxia Film and the China Film Group declined to confirm the numbers when contacted by The Hollywood Reporter.
