China Star gambles on 'Poker King'

Co-production with Macau gaming firm Suncity Group

HONG KONG -- One-time powerhouse producer China Star is returning to familiar ground, the world of gambling, with its next movie "Poker King."

The $2.5 million movie, which is now shooting in Macau, is a co-production with Macau gaming corporation Suncity Group and is produced by China Star chairman Charles Heung Wah-keung and Suncity chairman Chau Cheok-wa.

"Poker King" stars Josie Ho, actress and real-life daughter of Macau gambling mogul Stanley Ho, alongside Heung's son Jacky Heung and Lau Ching-wan ("Mad Detective") and Louis Koo ("Connected"). "La Lingerie" duo Chan Hing-ka and Janet Chun are directing.

Heung earned his place in Hong Kong film history with a slew of gambling blockbusters in the early 1990s, including "God of Gamblers" I & II, starring Chow Yun-fat, and "All for the Winner," starring Stephen Chow.
