Alvin! You've done it again."Alvin and the Chipmunks," from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, was the top DVD seller for the second consecutive week, while Paramount's Oscar-lauded "There Will Be Blood" topped the rental chart in its first week in release.
"Chipmunks" beat back a stiff challenge from Sony's "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep" to remain atop the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ending April 13. The Sony fantasy, which grossed $40.4 million in theaters, debuted at No. 2, just ahead of the Daniel Day-Lewis starrer "Blood."
Other DVDs debuting in the First Alert Top 10 include Sony's "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" (No. 5) and MGM's "Lions for Lambs" (No. 7).
In rental stores, "Blood" generated an estimated $8.5 million in rental stores, or 21.2% of its theatrical gross, to top Home Media Magazine's video rental chart for the week. "Chipmunks," the previous week's top renter, finished a strong No. 2, generating an estimated $7.2 million in its sophomore week. "Lions for Lambs" debuted at No. 3 with $6.8 million, "Water Horse" bowed at No. 4 with $6.7 million and "Walk Hard" finished seventh with estimated rental revenue of $5.7 million.
Warner's "I Am Legend" again was the top-selling high-definition title for the week.
