Chelsea Clinton, Ja Rule and top celebrity chefs came together to feed more than 8,400 families this year in NYC.

Some magic went down on Tuesday night at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City — practical magic, that is.

Everyone from actors to celebrity chefs attended City Harvest’s 23rd Annual ‘Evening of Practical Magic’ with the hope of raising $2.3 million to feed more than 8,400 families for a year in New York City.

Many stars came out to stand behind City Harvest’s mission of delivering good food to those in need instead of letting it go to waste, including Lise and Michael Evans, Chelsea Clinton, and chef Geoffrey Zakarian, host Zac Posen, City Harvest Food Council member Chrissy Teigen, Martha Stewart and the evening’s performer, Ja Rule.

“I’ve been aware of this cause my entire life being a born-and-raised New Yorker. It’s so important to nurture and feed families in need in this city,” Zac Posen told The Hollywood Reporter. “We have to grow homegrown talent; there’s such great wealth and access with food here. I mean, there’s a restaurant every other building, and there’s waste. It’s great quality waste, and that can’t be thrown out. There’s an ecological element, and a humanitarian responsibility.”

Many of the chefs in attendance serve on City Harvest’s Food Council, not only spreading awareness but also donating food to help feed New Yorkers.

“If there’s one thing in the restaurant business that chefs and cooks can’t stand, it’s waste,” said Chopped host and Food Council chef Ted Allen. “But at the end of the day, there are always some things that aren’t quite good enough to go out to the public, yet are still perfectly nutritious and perfectly useable for those of us at home and for hungry New Yorkers. One in five New Yorkers goes to bed hungry any given night, but this group manages to take a difficult situation and do something about it.”
