Christian Siriano Reacts to Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn's 'Project Runway' Exit

"Maybe it's time for a change," the fashion designer — who won the reality competition series in 2007 — told The Hollywood Reporter.

After 16 seasons and 14 years, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn revealed last week that they are saying "auf Wiedersehen" to Project Runway.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter's Evan Real on the red carpet at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons New York Fashion Week event, show alum Christian Siriano shared his thoughts about the duo's departure.

"Sixteen years is a long time. Maybe it's time for a change," Siriano said of Klum and Gunn's decision not to participate in Bravo's revival of the long-running series. Asked who should replace them, Siriano admitted that "it will be very hard."

The 32-year-old Maryland native — who became the youngest designer to win the reality competition in 2007 and launched his namesake label one year later — went on to say that he's thrilled for Klum and Gunn's new Amazon show. The streaming giant says the forthcoming project will make fashion accessible to a wide and global audience and offer a fresh take in the reality space, while appealing to viewers who are entertained by competition, storytelling and authenticity.

"It's exciting for them. I wish them all the best on their new show. It's awesome," Siriano said. "I'm sure it will be amazing."

Not long after Klum and Gunn announced their exit from Project Runway — which is set to return to its original network, Bravo, for season 17 following 11 seasons on Lifetime — designer Zac Posen confirmed that he will not be participating in the revival, either.

"Bravo is proud to bring Project Runway back where it all began, and Heidi and Tim will always be a huge part of the legacy," reps for Bravo previously said in a statement. "The series will continue its iconic impact with Bravo’s reboot for the next generation of designers and fans. We are excited to announce our new host and mentor very soon."

With three spots now open, has Siriano thought about rejoining the franchise as a host or mentor? "We'll see," he teased.

The Icons event was presented by Estee Lauder, Infor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Fujifilm Instax, Genesis and Stella Artois.
