UPDATE: Several body image-related statements from the singer -- including, "You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it" -- turn out to be fabricated.

UPDATE: The widely circulated quotes relating to weight and body image that have been attributed to Christina Aguilera by The Hollywood Reporter, People, The Daily Mail and Us Magazine, among others, turn out to have been fabricated. We apologize for the error.

Christina Aguilera reveals the ongoing struggle with her weight and with the record industry’s expectations.

“During the promotion of Stripped in 2002 I got tired of being a skinny, white girl,” she tells Billboard. “'I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl."

She also comes clean about her record execs not being at all happy when she subsequently gained weight. “I was heavier, darker and full of piercings! Let me tell you, that wasn't an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour."

"They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight," she admits. "Basically, they told me I would effect a lot of people if I gained weight -- the production, musical directors."

The execs told her that the people she toured with would also miss out if she gained weight because would she “would sell no records or tickets for my shows."

So she lost the weight very quickly and was “toothpick” skinny for her "Back to Basics" tour. But this year, older and wiser, the singer was ready to hit back at music execs.

For her  upcoming new album, Lotus, she stood her ground and informed the label: "You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it. My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore—my body is just not on the table that way anymore."

Aguilera recently released the music video for "Your Body," the first single off her upcoming album, which will hit stores in November. She is also appearing on the third season of The Voice as a coach. She has announced that -- along with fellow coach Cee Lo Green -- she will take the spring season off, with Usher and Shakira set to replace them.
