Kurt Russell's Santa Steals a Car in Latest 'Christmas Chronicles' Trailer

The actor brings the edge to St. Nick in the new preview for Netflix's holiday movie.

Nobody's ever seen Santa Claus — until now. And all the pop culture portrayals of him as a large, jolly man have been wrong.

That's the conceit behind The Christmas Chronicles, Netflix's latest foray into the holiday family film genre.

When siblings Teddy (Judah Lewis) and Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) hatch a plan to capture Santa (Kurt Russell) on film, they inadvertently cause him to crash his sleigh in Chicago. The siblings then join forces with Santa to help him deliver his presents by the end of the night.

The Christmas Chronicles' Santa is gritty, spry and cool. In the trailer, he is determined to save Christmas by any means necessary — even if it means breaking the law.

"We have a grand theft auto," a police radio blares as Teddy and Santa skid down the road in a stolen vehicle. Officers Jameson (Lamorne Morris) and Povenda (Martin Roach) are on their tail.

"Can't you just, like, wave your hand and Jedi mind-trick the cops?" Teddy asks hysterically.

"I'm Santa Claus, Teddy, not Yoda," he wisecracks.

The Christmas Chronicles was directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). It will hit Netflix on Nov. 22.
