Hot off his best actor award at this month's Festival de Cannes, Christoph Waltz has signed with ICM.

The Austrian actor is considered the breakout star of Quentin Tarantino's new film "Inglourious Basterds," in which he plays cruel Nazi Col. Hans Landa. The World War II actioner opens Aug. 21 in the U.S.

ICM's Adam Schweitzer read the "Basterds" script and believed the actor who landed the role had breakout potential. When Waltz, an award-winning TV actor in Germany, got the gig, Schweitzer pursued him and his German reps, becoming the first U.S. agent to approach them.

After several months, he secured an interview with Waltz, which led to the signing.
