Christy Spitzer Promoted to Oversee Alternative Program Development at Pivot (Exclusive)
She describes her job as finding TV shows “that will disrupt complacency” and inspire social change.
Christy Spitzer has been appointed senior vp original programming, for the Pivot cable network.
Spitzer, who joined Pivot in April 2014 in the programing group, will oversee development, production and execution of Pivot's special event programming, live events and specials.
She reports to Belisa Balaban, executive vp, original programming who sees Spitzer’s “creative sensibility" as "the perfect fit" for the network.”
Spitzer notes that she feels that working at the channel owned by Participant Media carries special obligations. “Every person who works here believes in the mission, to create entertainment that compels and inspires social change,” says Spitzer.
Pivot, which went on the air in 2013, reaches 48 million U.S. TV homes; and offers a streaming service as well as the cable channel.
Spitzer is from Phoenix. Before Pivot, she worked at MTV on Laguna Beach and the It Gets Better specials, as well as other shows. She also worked with Margaret Cho to produce The Cho Show, a sitcom, for VH-1.
At Pivot, she has been involved in development of Hit Record On TV with Joseph Gordon-Levitt; Angry Planet; the upcoming documentary series Secret Lives of Americans, and other shows.
“We really look for brave stories from credible voices that will disrupt complacency," says Spitzer. "We want to start the conversation.”
