Cinedigm Acquires Jonathan Rhys Meyers Thriller 'Awake' (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively debuting the trailer for the film, which will be released starting in August.

Cinedigm has acquired Alex Cher and Fedor Lyass' crime thriller Awake, previously titled Wake Up, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Francesca Eastwood.

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively debuting below the trailer for the film, which will be released on digital and VOD on Aug. 16, followed by a Blu-ray and DVD release Sept. 24.

Malik Yoba and William Forsythe round out the cast of the film, written by Elana Zeltser. The movie marks co-directors Cher and Lyass' English-language feature debut.

The film centers on a man (Meyers) who wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory of who he is or why he's there. Learning he's the suspect in a series of murders, he begins investigating with the help of his nurse (Eastwood), uncovering uncomfortable information about his past.

“Under Aleksandr’s skilful direction, Awake is a heart-pounding, stylish thriller featuring terrific performances from Jonathan and Francesca, along with strong supporting turns from Malik and William,” Cinedigm executive vp acquisitions, Yolanda Macias, said in a statement. “With a suspenseful plot filled with twists and turns, the film will keep audiences guessing until the very end.“

The film was produced by Katerina Valenti, Andre Relis and Jessica Bennett. Co-director Cher, Luke Taylor, Patrick DePeters and Matthew Helderman served as executive producers.

The deal was negotiated by Cinedigm acquisitions director Josh Thomashow, with Andre Relis from VMI Worldwide.
