Cinefan fest set for late October

Kaul will serve as festival director

NEW DELHI -- The 11th Osian's Cinefan festival of Asian and Arab cinema will be held in New Delhi from October 24-30 organizers said Tuesday pushing the festival from its traditional July dates due to weather conditions.

Cinefan is organized by Mumbai/Delhi-based art foundation Osian's.

Details about participating films and jury members will be announced later. One of the main features this year will be “NewStream," a spotlight on emerging Indian directors such as  Vishal Bhardwaj, Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee whose films have been both acclaimed and commercially successful.

As announced earlier, veteran filmmaker Mani Kaul is this year's festival director, along with joint directors Indu Shrikent and Latika Padgaonkar. Last year's event included special guests such as “Taxi Driver” writer Paul Schrader.

As in the past, Cinefan will see parallel art events with this year's event offering a fusion of art, cinema and tradition titled “Jashn–Osianama ”which will feature select masterpieces from the Osian's archive interpreting the theme “Violence Non Violence 1000 years."
