Cineplex Ent. teams with RealD

175 3-D systems to be installed in theaters

TORONTO -- Canadian exhibition giant Cineplex Entertainment has inked a deal with RealD to install at least 175 3-D systems in its theaters countrywide by December 2009.

The Canadian rollout will build on 41 RealD 3-D systems already installed in Cineplex multiplexes. The Toronto-based chain aims to have the 175 digital projection systems installed in time for a 2009 ramp-up in Hollywood 3-D releases.

Canada's largest exhibitor also has Imax 3-D screens in its chain and, like rival cinema chains, is driving more live content, including sports and concert programming, into its theaters.

Cineplex operates 132 theaters, with 1,337 screens countrywide.
