Famous food critic Jonathan Gold guides viewers through food's global map.

North American rights to City of Gold, Laura Gabbert's documentary profiling Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold, have been acquired by Sundance Selects, the distributor said Wednesday.

The figure for the deal was said to be in the mid- to high six-figure range.

"Laura's film is an amazing portrait of today's diverse culture as told through the eyes of inimitable food critic Jonathan Gold," read a statement from president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films Jonathan Sehring. "Our entire team fell in love with City of Gold and we look forward to working with the filmmaking team on its release."

The documentary focuses on both food and writing about it. Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Gold guides audiences around the ins and outs of culinary's geography.

Gabbert wrote and directed the film, and produced the title along with Braxton Pope

In a Sundance review, THR's chief film critic Todd McCarthy wrote that the title was "an enjoyable and edifying look" at the acclaimed food writer.
