Clarke makes move to Kudos

Kudos Pictures, the movie arm of U.K.-based indie film and television company Kudos, has hired Ed Clarke to head its development activities.

Clarke joins from sales, financier and production label Capitol Films, where he spent three years as head of development and acquisitions.

Headed by Stephen Garrett and Paul Webster, Kudos Pictures is part of Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine Group.

At Capitol, Clarke was responsible for acquisitions including John Maybury's "The Edge of Love," Sidney Lumet's "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and Jonathan King's "Under the Mountain," which is due to begin shooting shortly in New Zealand.

Garrett and Webster said they have "long admired" Clarke's "good taste, tenacity and market savvy" and said he is joining at a "crucial stage in the company's development."

Upcoming Kudos productions include feature-length wildlife documentary "The Crimson Wing," which is in postproduction for a 2008-09 worldwide release through Disney. Next up is "If the Spirit Moves You," written by Abi Morgan and to be directed by Rowan Woods.
