Sterling has been battling prostate cancer, according to ESPN, which confirmed news first reported by the New York Post.

A rep for the Clippers did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Sterling, 80, received a lifetime ban from the NBA and a $2.5 million fine Tuesday after audio surfaced of him making racist remarks. The NBA's advisory/finance committee says it is exploring options to end Sterling's ownership of the team.
