CMT orders more 'Singing Bee'

Network picks up 20 additional episodes

NEW YORK -- Karaoke game show "The Singing Bee" pulled in 1.5 million viewers in its debut on CMT in June -- making it the highest-rated series debut ever on the cable network -- and now CMT has ordered 20 more episodes of the show.

"We knew when we brought 'The Singing Bee' back to the U.S. airwaves on CMT that we had a great combination of music and game," said Phil Gurin, one of the executive producers and co-creator of the format.

The show originally launched in summer 2007 on NBC and continued through the fall, but was then dropped by the network. The producers then took the format abroad to air in 42 countries, and returned back to the U.S. to sign with CMT earlier this year.

"The Singing Bee" is produced by JUMA Entertainment and The Gurin Company.
