The political commentator was criticized for comments made during a UN speech on Wednesday.

Political commentator Dr. Marc Lamont Hill is no longer a CNN contributor following comments he made about Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people during a UN speech on Wednesday.

"Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN,” a network spokesperson said Thursday afternoon.

During a 21-minute speech, Hill called for a "free Palestine from the river to the sea," which he said on Twitter on Thursday was not meant to be an attack on the Jewish people.

"I support Palestinian freedom. I support Palestinian self-determination. I am deeply critical of Israeli policy and practice," he said on Twitter. "I do not support anti-Semitism, killing Jewish people, or any of the other things attributed to my speech. I have spent my life fighting these things."

During the speech, Hill said that Palestinians are deprived Israeli citizenship because they are not Jewish. "It is clear that any freedoms naturally endowed to all human beings are actively being stripped away from Palestinians through Israeli statecraft," he said.

Hill has hosted a television show for BET News and is a former Fox News contributor.

In late September, pro-Trump contributor Jason Miller left the network to focus on "clearing [his] name and fighting the false and defamatory accusations being made against" in a lawsuit.
