CNN names Sunday morning anchor

Candy Crowley to take over new hourlong 'State of the Union'

CNN has named senior political correspondent Candy Crowley the new anchor of CNN's Sunday morning program "State of the Union."

Crowley will take the reins of the program beginning Feb. 7, replacing John King, who is departing to launch a 7 p.m. daily show that will fill the void left by the exit of Lou Dobbs.

As part of the transition on Sunday, "State of the Union" will become an hourlong show from 9-10 a.m. (under King, it was a four-hour affair.)

"Candy's rare combination of shrewd insight and healthy irreverence for the games politicians play has made her one of the most honored political journalists and a cult figure among CNN viewers," said Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S.
