The Irish rocker impressed with a 50-minute early evening set on day two of weekend one.

Hozier wrapped his early evening performance at Coachella with a surprise, bringing out special guest Este Haim of Haim for an energetic rendition of The Time's 1984 classic "Jungle Love."

Introducing the portion of his set as the time when he likes to go off script, the Irish rocker was all smiles as the 29-year-old Haim strutted in a short black dress and cat-eye sunglasses, even nodding to the dance made famous in Prince's moviePurple Rain. "That was so fun, holy shit," she yelped as she exited the main stage.

Hozier took the stage at 6 p.m. for his Coachella debut, playing to a massive throng stretched far back along the field.

He was backed by a tight five-piece band along with two backup singers and seemingly set out to prove that his repertoire goes deeper than one great song. Whether it was the slow blues of "To Be Alone" or the jangly pop of "Someone New," Hozier displayed songwriting chops and showmanship.

Still, following the cover with his ubiquitous smash hit, "Take Me to Church," was a fitting ending to an impressive 50-minute set. Inviting the crowd to sing along, which they did faithfully, he took a final and well-deserved bow.
