Smulders, who wore Neuwirth's debut fragrance at the private party celebrating its release, said of the new scent: "This is subtle enough so I can wear it without feeling like I'm my grandmother."

Jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth has one more talent to add to her already glowing resume: perfumer.

Teaming up with Barneys New York for the latest release in the brand's Designer Fragrance Series (following in the footsteps of L'Wren Scott and Ralph Lauren), the fashion darling celebrated her aromatic debut with friends and fans at a private residence in Venice last week. Bedecked in Neuwirth's signature gem-laden jewels, local luminaries and a sprinkling of celebrities arrived to toast the latest accomplishments of both Neuwirth and her boyfriend Phil Lord, co-director of this year's box-office smash The Lego Movie.

Sipping on signature cocktails by The Spare Room (with apropos names such as Kodachrome and Scents & Sensibility), guests including Cameron Silver, Vogue contributing editor Lawren Howell, Cougar Town's Busy Philipps and House of Card's Constance Zimmer enjoyed the jovial sounds of ukulele band The Ukes of Hazzard in between congratulating the duo on their successes.

Sporting her signature fragrance, Neuwirth donned a Peter Pilotto frock for the occasion, paired with a stunning carved green opal and diamond necklace -- a sneak peek at what's to come for her eponymous jewelry line in the near future. "I grew up by the beach and I live on the Venice Canals. I've always loved beachy and salty things. I wanted [the fragrance] to smell like Coppertone, but more sophisticated," said Neuwirth of the inspiration behind the scent, which was created with master perfumer Ralf Schwieger and features notes of neroli, orange blossom, rose and coconut.

But Neuwirth wasn't the only sweet-smelling partygoer; How I Met Your Mother's Cobie Smulders also arrived wearing the eau de parfum -- and a pair of the designer's earrings, too.

"This is my go-to fragrance now," said Smulders. "I got it three days ago, and I've been wearing it every day. I'm on the tomboy side, but this is subtle enough so I can wear it without feeling like I'm my grandmother," she joked. Makes scents, er, sense to us.
