Cohl upped at Live Nation

NASHVILLE -- Michael Cohl has been elected chairman of Live Nation's board of directors effective immediately. Cohl was previously vice chairman of the board. He will continue in his role as chairman and CEO of Live Nation Artists, formerly known as Artist Nation. Live Nation Artists is best known for orchestrating the 10-year deal with Madonna said to be worth $120 million, and several other artists are believed to be in negotiations to come on board.

Cohl is widely considered a pioneer in the touring business and is credited with developing the concept of one-promoter global touring and the development of aftermarket tour revenue opportunities -- books, television shows, videos/DVDs, films and merchandise. He has promoted four of the top five tours of all time, including every Rolling Stones tour since Steel Wheels in 1989, and A Bigger Bang in 2005-07, the top-grossing tour of all time at more than $558 million.
