Col right at home with 'Discontent'

Sony's Columbia Pictures has picked up the comedy spec script "Winter's Discontent" from scribe Paul Fruchbom.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will be produce for Atlas Entertainment, the film division of Mosaic Media Group. Columbia inked the deal for low six figures.

The story follows Herb Winter, whose wife dies after 50 years of marriage. Long faithful but sexually frustrated, Winter moves with his best buddy to a retirement community, where they start living a swinging single life.

"It's rare to read a spec script with such a clear and original voice and to have it be funny … it's the icing on the cake," Gartner said.

Sam Dickerman is overseeing for the studio. Jake Kurily is Atlas' creative executive.
