Colbert Likens Trump's Inaugural Speech to "Lincoln Huffing Paint Thinner"
"You can stop now. He knows he won, right? Putin must have told him."
Stephen Colbert tackled the inauguration of President Donald Trump on The Late Show Friday night, saying, "That's it. Donald Trump is president. He knows the launch codes, and he hasn't tweeted them yet ... So far, so good."
Speaking about Trump's inaugural speech, which Colbert likened to "Lincoln huffing paint thinner," the host argued against the gloom-and-doom, "American carnage" imagery conjured by the president.
"Enough. We get it. The country is a turd storm," said Colbert. "You can stop now. He knows he won, right? Putin must have told him."
Outgoing President Barack Obama was on hand for the inauguration, and Colbert noted that Trump didn't miss the opportunity to talk about how much "the former president sucks" while Obama and Joe Biden had to "sit there as helpless as a damp Russian mattress," a reference to the unverified reports released last week that accused Trump of paying Russian prostitutes to perform "golden showers."
