Color-coordinated Post bows image science unit
EmptyPost Logic Studios has launched an image science division, led by Mitch J. Bogdanowicz and Denis Leconte. The goal is to develop consistent color management across every stage of a production, a post challenge they believe will only get more complex over time.
"The problem is just starting," said Bogdanowicz, likening color communication to the Tower of Babel.
"Acquisition formats — even at 4K — are not created equal, and there is no guaranteed quality consistency across the board," he said. "Our clients are directors and DPs, they don't have the time to immerse themselves in the highly intricate worlds of color science, data metrics and digital workflow. We are here to navigate those waters for them and give them the security and assurance that they will get exactly the look they are aiming for regardless of how they acquired their film or files."
Post Logic clients will have access to the new division's support on-set or in the facility. In addition to customized processes, the division is developing a metadata system for digitally lensed productions. Leconte said that the metadata tool is being designed to allow the company "to offer asset management and workflow capabilities with at least the same level of convenience as is currently possible with film and keycode-based systems. (It would give clients) an overview of their assets and the ability to access them in a more flexible manner."
Bogdanowicz assumes the title of executive vp imaging science, while Leconte is vp software engineering. Both joined the Post Logic staff in recent weeks.
