Columbia promotes Belgrad, Tolmach

Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach have both been promoted to president of Columbia Pictures. They have also re-upped the contracts with the studio through 2011.

Belgrad and Tolmach have been in the posts of president of production at the studio since 2003. The position of studio president had been unfilled since 1999 when current studio co-chair Amy Pascal held the post.

The promotion and the new contracts keep stable a team that has been at the helm of one of the most successful and lucrative runs in any studio history. The pair have shepherded "Spider-Man" franchise, "Casino Royale," "Superbad," "Hitch," "The Da Vinci Code," "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Ghost Rider," "The Pursuit of Happyness," "Click," "50 First Dates," "The Grudge" and many others. Films under their guidance have grossed about $7.6 billion.

The two will continue to report to Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Michael Lynton and Pascal.
